Continental interior parabolic dunes as a potential proxy for past climates

The global occurrence of parabolic dunes and their reactivation potential make them significant features in the present landscape. Several studies have assessed distribution structure relationship to local climate factors with aim constrain processes influencing activation reactivation. However, none addressed connection between recently active inland climatic conditions at a scale, nor as proxy for past climates. Here we report that activity 106 continental interior from last millennium is largely controlled by few quantifiable variables are mutually influenced: aridity, type vegetation, wind speed. We then compare mid-Holocene 67 palaeolevel 394 lakes confirm aridification, itself triggered northward displacement Intertropical Converge Zone. This study provides quantitative tool climates regions where shown be active, especially other proxies not available; along linking dune atmospheric circulation.
